Religion can be dangerous. By mocking it, we hope its followers realize how ridiculous the whole thing is and open their eyes. In the meantime we'll wait on the other side, having a blast.
The funny thing about this is that these close minded students illustrated how memes work in real time. In this case the meme was intolerance and inability to withstand opposing views even in a high level institution such as Oxford.
This is what religion does best.
To be fair, there are some things that (many, possibly most, but definitely not all of them) churches do right, especially regarding community activities and charity work. But every good thing that is attributed to a church is actually the people behind it, and there’s not a single thing they do that could not be improved if it was done in a secular way.
Another public figure who gets shunned for (rightfully) calling out religion.
Who is more dangerous and irrational, the so called “islamophobes”, or the terrorists killing because of their stupid beliefs?
And who’s worse, the zealots who kill and torture innocent people in the name of Islam, or the zealots whose skin is so thin they can’t stand anyone criticizing their religion to the point they’re willing to stand up for the terrorists?
Well, obviously the terrorists. The terrorists are the worst. But the people who get more outraged by someone exercising free speech than by the constant killings of their own people are not exactly guilt-free either
